Introducing the area’s first
Olympic-caliber swim facility.

The Greater Richmond Aquatics Partnership, or GRAP, is Central Virginia’s first world-class aquatics center. The idea to build the facility was born through organized partnerships of a variety of athletic and educational organizations in the area. Through the efforts of Poseidon Swimming, Collegiate School, Trinity Episcopal School, Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club, and Sports Backers, construction on GRAP is currently underway and the building is slated to open in Spring 2012.

The new 50,000 square foot aquatics facility will house a therapy pool, a fitness center, a 25-yard practice pool, a rehabilitation center, seating for 700 spectators and, most notably, the Myrtha pool from the 2008 Olympic trials in Omaha. In this pool, which is considered among the fastest in the world, America’s top swimmers attained new levels, achieving 9 world records, 21 national records, and 17 U.S. Open records.

While the pool’s last occupants made history, they are only the first chapter in the story of GRAP. From hosting swim meets to promoting water safety and personal health, GRAP will foster a love of swimming in not only competitive teenagers, but in local senior citizens, Richmond area residents and young Chesterfield schoolchildren as well.

The facility will provide Central Virginia with a first class aquatics facility where there’s something for every age and where local and regional athletes can strive to the Olympic dream.
