Peter’s love of design-build doesn’t end at the office; he also enjoys the occasional challenge around the house – building his own home’s deck, renovating the bathroom, and wiring his home theater system. Outside of professional and personal construction projects, Peter and his wife maintain their children’s rigorous weekend schedules; he also serves as a soccer coach.
Hourigan long ago made a commitment to the importance having an eye on and involvement in project design, and that promise is reflected in licensed architect Peter Barden. Approaching construction projects with a focus on design and technology, he oversees Hourigan’s Technical Services Group. Under his leadership, this division focuses on creating detailed virtual building information models (BIM) that allow architects, engineers, and subcontractors to increase transparency, ensure accuracy, and improve communication on each project.
As an architect, Peter has helped develop construction documents on projects totaling more than 2 million-square-feet of building area. Prior to joining Hourigan, he held a variety of roles with Commonwealth Architects, working on projects large and small in both the private and public sectors. He has extensive experience in developments involving adaptive reuse and historic tax credits, and a keen interest in historic restoration and preservation. Peter is a strong proponent in the use of construction technology, and the industry media regularly calls upon him for insights.
